A young reliever out of Washington, North Carolina, Barfield saw decent action in his first year as a UNC-Asheville Bulldog.  Through 17 appearances out of the pen he totaled 20 innings of work while racking up 18 strike outs.  Barfield had a fantastic high school career at Washington High School where he was in Perfect Game’s Top 50 right handed pitchers as a senior.  In that same year, he went 7-1 with a 1.14 ERA, 58 strike outs and only 16 walks in 55.1 innings pitched.  Barfield was named All-Conference and earned six Varsity letters in both baseball and football combined.
