The McAllen Thunder (15-27) built an early lead against the Edinburg Roadrunners (25-17), scoring three runs in the first inning, en route to a 5-1 win on Friday at Edinburg Stadium.
The Edinburg Roadrunners had no answer for Kurt Houck, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Houck held the Edinburg Roadrunners hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.
Alex Smith got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed one run over six innings. He struck out three, walked three and surrendered four hits.
Dave Dineli ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fifth loss of the year. He lasted just nine innings, walked three, struck out six, and allowed five runs.
