The Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (1-2) used a six-run explosion in the fourth inning to get past the Fort Worth Cats (2-1) 12-6 on Friday at LaGrave Field.

Fidel Hernandez racked up six RBIs on three hits for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the third and ninth innings.

Celson Polanco racked up eight strikeouts in the the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings win. Polanco allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks over 4 2/3 innings.

Jason Diaz led the Fort Worth Cats' offensive threat, as he got on base four times in the game. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the second and sixth innings.

Kane Holbrooks (0-1) took the loss for the Fort Worth Cats. He allowed eight runs in 3 1/3 innings, walked none and struck out two.

The Rio Grande Valley Whitewings jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Nick Lazendorf kicked things off for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings with a single. The Rio Grande Valley Whitewings pushed more runs across when Mercedes scored on an error.

The Rio Grande Valley Whitewings scored two runs in the seventh inning, and then followed it up with two more in the ninth. In the seventh, the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings scored on a two-run single by Francisco Santana, bringing home Mario Mercedes and James Mays.
