The Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (22-18) beat the San Angelo Colts (21-19) 8-1 on Thursday thanks to a six-run seventh inning.
Ruddy Yan helped the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings take the lead for good in the sixth inning. Leugim Barroso singled to start the sixth. He then went from first to third. Finally, Yan came to the plate with the score tied at one in the sixth inning, and singled, bringing home Barroso.
Mario Mercedes racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings. He singled in the third and seventh innings.
Luis Chirinos's nine strikeouts were enough to push the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings past the San Angelo Colts. Chirinos allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings.
Mark Willinsky ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in six innings, walked one and struck out one.
