Early boost from Downes helps the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters get past the Madison Mallards, 5-4

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (23-31) built an early lead against the Madison Mallards (30-24), scoring four runs in the first inning, en route to a 5-4 win on Friday at Warner Park.

Brandon Downes racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. He singled in the first and third innings and homered in the fifth inning.

Skyler Debilzen looked sharp on the mound. Debilzen held the Madison Mallards hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Ben Heller improved to 4-3 on the year by picking up the win for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. He allowed four runs over five innings. Heller struck out four, walked five and gave up three hits.

Trevor Foss (3-6) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.
