The Thunder Bay Border Cats (12-15) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 3-2 ballgame against the St. Cloud Rox (6-19) on Tuesday at Joe Faber Field.
The St. Cloud Rox took the lead in the eighth inning on a wild pitch.
It was a good day at the plate for the St. Cloud Rox's Erik Kozel. Kozel went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He homered in the third inning and singled in the seventh inning.
The Thunder Bay Border Cats couldn't get anything going as long as Alex Roberts was on the mound. Roberts held the Thunder Bay Border Cats hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four.
Garrett Hughes was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the St. Cloud Rox batters and allowing one run.
Woody Nisbet ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out two, and allowed one run.
