Alex Staehely had two extra base hits, sparking the Peninsula Oilers (10-7) to a 6-3 victory over the Matsu Miners (5-12) on Sunday at Hermon Brothers Field.
He homered in the first inning and doubled in the third inning.Mark Garcia shut down the Matsu Miners while he was on the mound. The Matsu Miners managed just one hit off of Garcia, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during his 2 2/3 innings of work.
Andrew McGee was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Peninsula Oilers batters and allowing zero runs.
It was a good day at the plate for the Matsu Miners' Erik Harbutz. Harbutz went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the eighth inning.
Brandon Warner recorded his first win of the year for the Peninsula Oilers. He allowed two runs over 3 1/3 innings. Warner struck out one, walked none and gave up five hits.
Jake Watts ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just four innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
