The Atwater Aviators (16-10) shut the door early on the Merced Vols, capturing a 9-3 victory on Friday at Fireman_apos;s Memorial Ballpar.

The game was decided quickly as the Atwater Aviators exerted their will early with five runs in the first three innings.

A groundout by Chris Van Dyke in the first inning and an RBI single by Beau Bozett, , an RBI single by Tommy Kawamura, a sacrifice fly by Jake Morton, and a sacrifice fly by Van Dyke during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Atwater Aviators.

Adam Mund racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Atwater Aviators. He singled in the sixth inning and homered in the eighth inning.

The Merced Vols couldn't get anything going so long as Jason Renner was on the hill. Renner gave up just three hits, allowed no earned runs, walked four and struck out four during his five innings of work.

Mike Nelson took the loss for the Merced Vols. He allowed six runs in 5 2/3 innings, walked seven and struck out three.
