The Newark Bears take out the Worcester Tornadoes with help from Mercado, 7-3

Orlando Mercado collected three hits as the Newark Bears (29-56) took home a 7-3 victory over the Worcester Tornadoes (25-59) at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitto on Thursday.

He homered in the second inning and singled in the seventh and ninth innings.

The Worcester Tornadoes had no answer for Sergio Espinosa, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Espinosa held the Worcester Tornadoes hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.

Cam Kneeland racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Worcester Tornadoes. He homered in the second inning and singled in the eighth inning.

Julian Sampson got the win, running his season record to 1-5. He allowed two runs over five innings. Sampson struck out seven, walked three and gave up four hits.

Dan Sausville ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his ninth loss of the year. He allowed six runs in seven innings, walked three and struck out three.
