Matt Tomczyk drove in the go-ahead run to give the Kansas City the lead in the seventh inning, as the Kansas City hung on to beat the Newark (11-21) 7-4 on Monday.
After Dan Coury hit into a fielder's choice, Tomczyk singled, scoring Coury.Ray Sadler racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Kansas City. He homered in the first inning and singled in the eighth inning.
The Kansas City got the win thanks in large part to Brian Grening's dominant, seven-strikeout performance. Grening allowed one earned run, five hits and no walks over eight innings.
Matt Lyons was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked two, struck out two, and allowed two runs.
