Nick Walters was cold coming off the bench, but Walters warmed up quickly as Walters stroked a key pinch-hit single in the six to lead the Wichita Wingnuts (53-39) to an 8-4 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats (46-47) on Sunday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
With the Wichita Wingnuts trailing by three, Walters came to the plate and singled, plating Ryan Khoury.
David Peralta helped the Wichita Wingnuts pull ahead for the duration in the eighth inning. Greg Porter singled to start the eighth. He then went from first to third on a single by CJ Ziegler. Finally, Peralta came to the plate with the score tied at four, and singled, scoring Porter.
Wilson Batista reached base three times in the game for the Wichita Wingnuts. He singled in the fifth inning.
James Hoyt got the win, running his season record to 2-0. Hoyt struck out two, walked none and gave up one hit.
Marshall Schuler (1-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just two innings, walked two, struck out none, and allowed four runs.
