The Gary SouthShore RailCats get key pinch-hit in 9-8 victory over the Amarillo Sox

Craig Maddox was cold coming off the bench, but Maddox warmed up quickly as Maddox stroked a key pinch-hit single in the nine to lead the Gary SouthShore RailCats (35-41) to a 9-8 win over the Amarillo Sox (36-40) on Tuesday at Gary, Ind. (U.S. Steel Yard).

With the Gary SouthShore RailCats trailing by one in the ninth inning, Maddox came to the plate and singled.

A walk-off by Zac Mitchell gave the Gary SouthShore RailCats the win.

Mitchell reached base five times. He also drove in two runners. He singled in the second inning.

Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 17 total runs and 25 hits during the game. There were nine pitchers used in the game as the two managers searched for any way to finish it off.

Tyler Deetjen recorded his second win of the year for the Gary SouthShore RailCats. He allowed one run over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered three hits.

Chase Johnson couldn't get it done on the mound for the Amarillo Sox, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked three, struck out none, and allowed four runs.

Chris Carrara, Mitchell and Brian Kolb helped lead the Gary SouthShore RailCats. They combined for six hits and three RBIs.
