Jesse Schumacher threw a shutout to lift the Alameda Merchants (20-17) to an 8-0 win over the Fresno Cardinals (23-17) at College of Alameda in seven innings.
The Fresno Cardinals couldn't get anything going as long as Schumacher was on the mound. Schumacher gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out seven during his seven innings of work.
The Alameda Merchants blew out the Fresno Cardinals thanks to 10 hits, including zero extra base hits. The Alameda Merchants scored three runs in the third on an RBI triple by Matt Chavez, a sacrifice fly by Steven Moen, and an RBI triple by Anthony Nicolosi.
Chavez went a perfect 2-2 at the dish for the Alameda Merchants.
Ryan Ahrens couldn't get it done on the bump for the Fresno Cardinals, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in three innings, walked three and struck out one.
