The Leesburg Lightning top the DeLand Suns in back-and-forth affair, 6-3

Story by Narrative Science.

The Leesburg Lightning (17-9) outlasted the DeLand Suns (15-10) on Friday after five lead changes, squeaking out a 6-3 win at Conrad Park at Stetson Universi.

The Leesburg Lightning pulled out the win thanks to a strong sixth inning. A groundout by Jake Hanson scored Kyle Teaf and gave the Leesburg Lightning the lead for good.

Erik Hindmon was solid at the plate for the Leesburg Lightning. Hindmon went 2-5, drove in one and scored three runs. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the seventh inning.

The Leesburg Lightning got the win thanks in large part to Nic Kovacs's dominant, six-strikeout performance. Kovacs allowed two earned runs, six hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings.

A bright spot for the DeLand Suns in the defeat was Montana Durapau, who allowed only one run while striking out seven.

Reily Monkman ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
