The Alameda Merchants survive the San Francisco Seagulls 8-4 thanks to Rose's late-game heroics

Tyler Rose drove in the go-ahead run to give the Alameda Merchants (8-10) the lead in the seventh inning, as the Alameda Merchants hung on to beat the San Francisco Seagulls (14-10) 8-4 on Wednesday.

With the score tied at four in the seventh inning, Rose came to the plate and singled, scoring Matt Chavez.

Chavez had three extra-base hits for the Alameda Merchants. He singled in the third inning, tripled in the seventh inning, and doubled in the second and eighth innings.

Austin Wiggins looked sharp on the mound. The San Francisco Seagulls managed just one hit off of Wiggins, who allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out three during his four innings of work.

Roger Fonseca racked up two RBIs on two hits for the San Francisco Seagulls. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the seventh inning.

Mark Scannell got the win, running his season record to 1-1. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered one hit.

Sam Alton (0-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed three runs.

The Alameda Merchants were sparked by Chavez and Brandon Alexander, who teamed up for five hits and two RBIs.
