The Sanford River Rats defeat the Leesburg Lightning after late game passed ball, 7-6

The Sanford River Rats (15-18) and the Leesburg Lightning (21-12) passed the lead back and forth four times on Thursday at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadi, but in the end the Sanford River Rats pulled out a 7-6 win over the Leesburg Lightning.

The Sanford River Rats pulled out the win thanks to a strong ninth inning. A passed ball scored Kevin Wortman to give the Sanford River Rats the lead for good.

Wortman reached base three times in the game for the Sanford River Rats. He scored three runs and had one RBI. He doubled in the ninth inning.

Jason Boyer brought the heat against the Leesburg Lightning during his outing. The Leesburg Lightning managed just one hit off of the the Sanford River Rats' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out six during his 2 1/3 innings of work.

Jake Hanson racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Leesburg Lightning. He singled in the third inning and homered in the fourth inning.

Jordan Strittmatter improved to 2-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Sanford River Rats. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered no hits.

Trey Norris (1-2) took the loss for the Leesburg Lightning. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed two runs.
