Michael Danner brought home the go-ahead run to give the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs (8-7) the lead in the seventh inning, as the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs hung on to beat the Sanford River Rats (4-11) 9-4 on Thursday.

Edward Medina doubled to start the seventh. He then went from second to third on a groundout by Ted Blackman. Finally, Danner came to the plate with the score tied at three, and, scoring Medina and Daniel Sweet.

Sweet reached base three times. He singled in the first and sixth innings.

Harrison Hukari was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs batters and allowing zero runs.

Daniel Seeba led the Sanford River Rats' offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the third inning.

Cary Baxter improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs. He allowed three runs over six innings. Baxter struck out six, walked two and gave up seven hits.

Gabe Rivera (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out one.
