The Sanford River Rats survive the Leesburg Lightning rally, escape with 6-4 victory

The Leesburg Lightning (22-13) were never able to get over the hump and overcome their troubles against the Sanford River Rats (17-18) on Sunday, as the Leesburg Lightning fell 6-4 at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadi after falling behind by three runs in the fifth inning.

The Leesburg Lightning scored two runs in the seventh on a double by Matthew Singletary and a sacrifice fly by Jake Hanson. Despite their efforts, the Leesburg Lightning couldn't get over the hump.

Kevin Wortman racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Sanford River Rats. He homered in the fourth inning.

Spencer Hermann looked sharp on the mound. Hermann gave up just two hits, allowed two earned runs, walked five and struck out six during his five innings of work.

Singletary led the Leesburg Lightning's offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored one run and had two RBIs. He doubled in the seventh inning.

Dylan Hathcock (2-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out four, and allowed five runs.
