The DeLand Suns' late runs seal 13-3 blowout over the Sanford River Rats

The DeLand Suns (1-0) took home a 13-3 victory over the Sanford River Rats (0-1) on Friday at Conrad Park at Stetson Universi, fueled by five runs in the seventh inning.

Angelo Amendolare pushed the DeLand Suns ahead, in the sixth inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. Jake Pequignot singled to start the sixth. He then went from first to second on a stolen base. Finally, Amendolare came to the plate with the score tied at three, and, scoring Pequignot.

Kevin Lindheim put himself in scoring position with three extra-base hits for the DeLand Suns. He singled in the sixth inning and doubled in the second, seventh, and eighth innings.

The Sanford River Rats' lineup had no answer for Drew Jackson. Jackson held the Sanford River Rats hitless over four innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six.

Daniel Stoops improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the DeLand Suns. He allowed three runs over one inning. Stoops struck out one, walked one and gave up two hits.

Eddie Abramson couldn't get it done on the bump for the Sanford River Rats, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked two, struck out none, and allowed four runs.

The DeLand Suns were sparked by Pequignot and Lindheim, who teamed up for six hits and four RBIs.
