A nine-run explosion in the fourth inning carried the Vienna River Dogs (23-18) to a 13-2 win in seven innings over the Bethesda Big Train (25-16) at James Madison High School on Saturday.
Bret Williams racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Vienna River Dogs. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth inning.
The Vienna River Dogs got the win thanks in large part to Mike Straub's dominant, six-strikeout performance. Straub allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk over four innings.
Brendan Hendriks was solid at the plate for the Bethesda Big Train. Hendriks went 1-1, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning.
Robbie Kidd (1-4) took the loss for the Bethesda Big Train. He lasted just two innings, walked six, struck out three, and allowed no runs.
