Chris Sweeney drove in the winning run to give the Alexandria Aces (16-18) the lead in the eighth inning, as the Alexandria Aces hung on to beat the Southern Maryland Nationals (13-23) 5-4 on Monday.

With the Alexandria Aces trailing by two in the eighth inning, Sweeney came to the plate and homered, bringing home Ronnie Glenn and Alex Buccilli.

Sweeney racked up three RBIs on one hit for the Alexandria Aces. He homered in the eighth inning.

A bright spot for the Southern Maryland Nationals in the defeat was Collin Fishman, who allowed only two runs while striking out five.

Steven Schuler improved to 2-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Alexandria Aces. Schuler struck out one, walked none and gave up no hits.

Nick Benges ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked two, struck out one, and allowed one run.
