The Vienna River Dogs best the Southern Maryland Nationals in shootout, 11-9

Pitchers had a tough day during the game between the Vienna River Dogs (20-15) and the Southern Maryland Nationals (13-23), as the two teams put up 20 runs combined in a 11-9 the Vienna River Dogs win.

The teams totaled 22 hits in the game.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the sixth, with five lead changes.

The Vienna River Dogs would not relinquish the lead as the Southern Maryland Nationals were unable to weather a three-run sixth inning deficit.

The Southern Maryland Nationals scored one run in the seventh on an RBI single by Brandon Gum. Unfortunately, the Southern Maryland Nationals weren't able to take the lead back.

Trent Higginbothem racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Vienna River Dogs. He homered in the fifth inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Nick Stephens recorded his second win of the year for the Vienna River Dogs. He allowed one run over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked three and surrendered two hits.

Hunter Brown ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
