Four first-inning runs helped the Herndon Braves (4-7) to a 5-4 win over the Southern Maryland Nationals (5-6) at Alan McCullock Field on Sunday.

The Herndon Braves staved off the Southern Maryland Nationals as the Southern Maryland Nationals were unable to match the Herndon Braves down the stretch.

The Southern Maryland Nationals scored on an RBI double by James Plaisted in the third inning and an error and a two-run single by Plaisted in the fifth inning. Despite their efforts, the Southern Maryland Nationals couldn't get over the hump.

Jourdan Weiks had two extra-base hits for the Herndon Braves. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the second inning.

Seth Greene recorded his second win of the year for the Herndon Braves. He allowed three runs over four innings. Greene struck out three, walked two and gave up eight hits.

Bryan McHale couldn't get it done on the hill for the Southern Maryland Nationals, taking a loss. He lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out four, and allowed five runs.
