The Southern Maryland Nationals fight back, defeat the Bethesda Big Train, 8-7

Down three runs in the eighth, the Southern Maryland Nationals (15-26) recovered thanks to Elbert DeVarie's passed ball in the tenth, and pulled out a 8-7 win over the Bethesda Big Train (25-16) on Thursday at Regency Furniture Stadium.

With the score tied at seven in the tenth inning,, scoring Danny Sader.

The Southern Maryland Nationals were led by DeVarie's hitting. DeVarie went 1-3. He singled in the fourth inning.

Ricky Alfonso racked up three RBIs on four hits for the Southern Maryland Nationals. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the second, eighth, and tenth innings.

The Bethesda Big Train couldn't get anything going as long as Hunter Brown was pitching. Brown held the Bethesda Big Train hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.

Taylor Peed improved to 2-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Southern Maryland Nationals. Peed struck out none, walked none and gave up one hit.

Hugh Adams couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Bethesda Big Train, taking a loss. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out two, and allowed one run.
