A magnificent effort by Matthew Vasquez carried the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (34-43) to a 3-1 win over the Somerset Patriots (38-40) on Friday at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Vasquez's nine strikeouts were enough to push the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs past the Somerset Patriots. Vasquez allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks over nine innings.

Richard Giannotti helped the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs take the lead for good in the seventh inning. After Richard Mercado, Giannotti came to the plate with the score tied at one, and doubled, bringing home Mercado.

Giannotti racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the seventh inning.

Jake Fox paced the Somerset Patriots at the plate. Fox went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning.

Roy Merritt couldn't get it done on the bump for the Somerset Patriots, taking a loss. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked four, struck out three, and allowed three runs.
