Stephen Dezzi brought home the go-ahead run to give the Utica (19-13) the lead in the seventh inning, as the Utica hung on to beat the Sherrill (12-19) 5-2 on Monday.
With the score tied at one, Dezzi came to the plate and hit a grand slam, plating Daniel De La Calle, Steven Negron and Brian Pruett.Dezzi racked up four RBIs on one hit for the Utica. He homered in the seventh inning.
Eros Modena had a hot bat for the Utica. Modena went 2-5, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the third inning and singled in the ninth inning.
Miguel Navarro picked up the win for the Utica. Navarro pitched nine innings and allowed two earned runs, five hits and three walks while striking out six.
The Sherrill were led by Wesley Van Boom's hitting. Van Boom went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and homered in the fourth inning.
Oliver Pratt (3-2) took the loss for the Sherrill. He lasted just seven innings, walked two, struck out seven, and allowed five runs.
