The Utica (13-11) shut the door early on the GEN Red Wings (8-12), capturing a 14-3 victory on Sunday at Donovan Stadium.
The game was decided quickly as the Utica exerted their will early with eight runs in the first three innings.
A groundout by Stephen Dezzi during the first inning and an RBI double by Brian Pruett, an RBI double by Eros Modena, an RBI single by Steven Negron, a steal of home by Modena, an RBI single by Kenny Durling, and a two-run single by Jesse Pintado in the second inning fueled the Utica's offense early.Matt Bahnick racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Utica. He homered in the fourth inning and tripled in the fifth inning.
The GEN Red Wings' lineup had no answer for Tyler Murphy. Murphy held the GEN Red Wings hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
David Sharpe improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Utica. He struck out three, walked three and surrendered no hits.
Jon Dunn (2-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed 14 runs in 4 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.
