The SYR JR Chiefs fight back, defeat the Sherrill, 16-12

Things looked bleak for the SYR JR Chiefs (9-2) when they trailed by three runs in the eighth inning, but the SYR JR Chiefs recovered thanks to a key single in the ninth inning from Frank Salerno to pull out a 16-12 win over the Sherrill (6-10) at Noyes Park.

With the score tied at 12 in the ninth inning, Salerno came to the plate and singled, plating David Lostaglio and Daniel Carroll.

Salerno racked up two RBIs on three hits for the SYR JR Chiefs. He singled in the first, fourth, and ninth innings.

Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 28 runs and 27 hits, including zero extra base hits. Relief pitchers got their fill of innings during the game, with the opposing managers using 11 pitchers in total.

Brian Witkowski went a perfect 3-3 at the dish for the SYR JR Chiefs. He singled in the second inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and homered in the fifth inning.

Peter Doggett recorded his first win of the year for the SYR JR Chiefs. He allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered two hits.

Nicholas Douglass ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed six runs in zero innings, walked two and struck out none.
