Three first-inning runs helped the SYR JR Chiefs (2-2) to a 7-3 win over the Utica (2-3) at Donovan Stadium on Saturday.
Christian Knott had a hot bat for the SYR JR Chiefs. Knott went 3-4 and scored three runs. He singled in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.
The Utica couldn't get anything going as long as Alex Basso was on the mound. The Utica managed just two hits off of the the SYR JR Chiefs' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his four innings of work.
The Utica were led by Jerome Bright's hitting. Bright went 3-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the third, seventh, and ninth innings.
Tyler Bowditch was charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked four, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
