The Hornell (23-10) and the Wellsville (13-23) passed the lead back and forth six times on Thursday at Wellsville Central, but in the end the Hornell pulled out an 8-7 win over the Wellsville.
The Hornell finally managed to grab the lead after a strong sixth inning. A sacrifice fly by Kevin Johnson scored Justin Gonzalez and gave the Hornell the lead for good.
Will Benenson racked up three RBIs on one hit for the Hornell. He homered in the fifth inning.
The Wellsville couldn't get anything going so long as Jake Bradenberger was on the hill. Bradenberger held the Wellsville hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out three.
Philip Hathcock improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Hornell. He allowed one run over 1 1/3 innings. Hathcock struck out none, walked two and gave up one hit.
Cameron Langfels couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Wellsville, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out two, and allowed one run.
