The Long Island Ducks survive the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs rally, escape with 4-3 victory

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (28-36) were never able to get over the hump and get over their troubles against the Long Island Ducks (39-24) on Monday, as the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs fell 4-3 at Bethpage Ballpark after falling behind by four runs in the fifth inning.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs scored on and a sacrifice fly by Jesse Gutierrez in the sixth inning and an RBI single by Brian Barton in the eighth inning. Still, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs couldn't catch the Long Island Ducks.

James McOwen had a hot bat for the Long Island Ducks. McOwen went 3-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the first and third innings and doubled in the fifth inning.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs couldn't get anything going as long as Nick Singleton was pitching. The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs managed just two hits off of Singleton, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out seven during his five innings of work.

Matthew Vasquez (4-4) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just seven innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed four runs.
