Quincy Gems vs Springfield Sliders: 4-6

The Springfield Sliders hang on against the Quincy Gems, 6-4

The Quincy Gems (33-25) were never able to get over the hump and overcome their troubles against the Springfield Sliders (24-34) on Saturday, as the Quincy Gems fell 6-4 at Robin Roberts Field after falling behind by four runs in the fifth inning.

The Quincy Gems scored on an RBI single by Matt Munoz in the eighth inning and in the ninth inning. Despite their efforts, the Quincy Gems couldn't get over the hump.

Mike Fitzgerald Jr. put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Springfield Sliders. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the third and fifth innings.

The Quincy Gems couldn't get anything going as long as David Frank was on the mound. The Quincy Gems managed just one hit off of the the Springfield Sliders' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his two innings of work.

Gregory Allen was solid at the plate for the Quincy Gems. Allen went 2-5, drove in one and scored one run.

Nick Musec recorded the win for the Springfield Sliders. He allowed two runs over five innings. Musec struck out three, walked two and gave up three hits.

Seth McWilliams couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Quincy Gems, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in four innings, walked three and struck out two.

The Springfield Sliders were sparked by Fitzgerald Jr. and Wade Rothermich, who teamed up for six hits and four RBIs.
