Ryan Aper brought home the go-ahead run to give the Springfield Sliders (20-26) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Springfield Sliders hung on to beat the Hannibal Cavemen (23-23) 7-3 on Saturday.
Sean Gerber singled to start the sixth. He then went from second to third on a single by Wade Rothermich. Finally, Aper came to the plate with the score tied at two, and singled, bringing home Gerber.Rothermich put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Springfield Sliders. He tripled in the second inning, singled in the fourth and sixth innings, and doubled in the seventh innings.
The Hannibal Cavemen had no answer for John White, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. White held the Hannibal Cavemen hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.
Max Frederick recorded his first win of the year for the Springfield Sliders. He allowed two runs over six innings. Frederick struck out two, walked six and gave up seven hits.
Ryan Powers ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
