The Springfield Sliders (15-24) were never able to get over the hump and get over their troubles against the Quincy Gems (22-17) on Saturday, as the Springfield Sliders fell 8-7 at Robin Roberts Field after falling behind by six runs in the fifth inning.
The Springfield Sliders scored on a two-run home run by Matthew Tellor and a solo home run by Mike Fitzgerald Jr. in the fifth inning and an RBI single by Ryan Aper and in the seventh inning. Still, the Springfield Sliders couldn't catch the Quincy Gems.
Zac Zdanowicz went a perfect 4-4 at the dish for the Quincy Gems. He singled in the second, third, fifth, and seventh innings.
The Springfield Sliders couldn't get anything going as long as Jake Walsh was pitching. Walsh held the Springfield Sliders hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five.
