An impressive effort by Kris Gardner lifted the Hannibal Cavemen (16-13) to a 9-0 win over the Springfield Sliders on Saturday at Clemens Field.
Gardner's 12 strikeouts were enough to push the Hannibal Cavemen past the Springfield Sliders (10-19). The Hannibal Cavemen's pitcher gave up just three hits over seven shutout innings.
The Hannibal Cavemen blew out the Springfield Sliders thanks to nine hits, including zero extra base hits. The Hannibal Cavemen scored three runs in the fifth on a wild pitch, an RBI double by Ian Sikes, and a sacrifice fly by Tyler Filliben.
Jake Mangler did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Hannibal Cavemen, reaching base four times. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the fifth and eighth innings.
Zach Wendorf ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in four innings, walked five and struck out three.
