An ace performance by Tyler Backstrom hoisted the Chillicothe Paints (13-7) to a 2-0 win over the West Virginia Miners (13-7) on Wednesday at VA Memorial Stadium.
Backstrom kept the West Virginia Miners off the board during his seven innings of work. Backstrom allowed two hits, two walks and struck out six.
Dan Zuchowski was hot from the plate for the Chillicothe Paints. Zuchowski went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and homered in the sixth inning.
Despite the loss, the West Virginia Miners' Jacob Johansen dominated the Chillicothe Paints' batters, giving up two runs and striking out eight.
Johansen couldn't get it done on the rubber for the West Virginia Miners, taking a loss.
