Ryan Skellie brought home the winning run to give the Florence Freedom (20-13) the lead in the seventh inning, as the Florence Freedom hung on to beat the Washington Wild Things (13-19) 5-3 on Friday.
After Jim Jacquot singled, Skellie came to the plate with the game scoreless in the seventh inning and singled, scoring Jacquot.The Florence Freedom held off the Washington Wild Things, as the Washington Wild Things were unable to overcome a four-run seventh inning deficit.
The Washington Wild Things scored on a groundout by Matt McConnell and a groundout by McConnell in the seventh inning and a sacrifice fly by Michael Mooney in the ninth inning. Unfortunately, the Washington Wild Things weren't able to take the lead back.
Junior Arrojo did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Florence Freedom, reaching base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the fifth inning and homered in the ninth inning.
Andres Caceres struck out six, paving the way for a the Florence Freedom win. Caceres allowed two earned runs, four hits and three walks over six innings.
Jhonny Montoya couldn't get it done on the bump for the Washington Wild Things, taking a loss. He lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed four runs.
