The Lake Erie Crushers defeat the Washington Wild Things after late game sacrifice fly, 9-4

The Lake Erie Crushers (8-14) and the Washington Wild Things (9-12) exchanged the lead five times on Monday, but the Lake Erie Crushers ended up on top with a 9-4 win over the Washington Wild Things.

The Lake Erie Crushers took the lead in the sixth inning and held on for the victory. A sacrifice fly by Brian Erie scored Kellen Kulbacki and Kulbacki and gave the Lake Erie Crushers the lead for good.

Kulbacki put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Lake Erie Crushers. He homered in the second inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

The Washington Wild Things had no answer for Randy Sturgill, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Washington Wild Things managed just one hit off of the the Lake Erie Crushers' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Michael Mooney racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Washington Wild Things. He singled in the fifth and sixth innings.

Kelyn Schellenberg improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Lake Erie Crushers. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered two hits.

Steven Grife couldn't get it done on the bump for the Washington Wild Things, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed two runs.

The Lake Erie Crushers' Andrew Davis, Russell Moldenhauer, Adrian Ortiz and Kulbacki combined for 10 hits and four RBIs.
