A superb effort by Tony Marsala spurred the River City Rascals (42-46) to an 11-0 win over the Joliet Slammers (35-53) on Friday at Silver Cross Field.
The River City Rascals' Marsala kept the Joliet Slammers off the scoreboard for all nine innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on four hits while ringing up seven.
The River City Rascals blew out the Joliet Slammers thanks to 12 hits, including zero extra base hits. The River City Rascals scored four runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Charlie Lisk, a double by Corey LeVier, , and an error.
Jason Patton racked up two RBIs on three hits for the River City Rascals. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the fifth and eighth innings.
Matt Sommo (2-3) took the loss for the Joliet Slammers. He allowed nine runs in four innings, walked two and struck out two.
