The Joliet Slammers (18-27) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 5-4 to the Florence Freedom (26-19) on Thursday.

The Florence Freedom took the lead in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Pierre LePage.

Jose Velazquez recorded his fourth win of the year for the Florence Freedom. Velazquez struck out one, walked one and gave up no hits.

Brian Smith was charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.
