The Florence Freedom (5-7) took the last of four lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against the Southern Illinois Miners (7-5), securing a 7-4 victory on Thursday at Rent One Park, Marion, IL.

The Florence Freedom pulled out the win thanks to a strong fifth inning. A two-run error scored Peter Fatse and David Harris and gave the Florence Freedom the lead for good.

Fatse had a hot bat for the Florence Freedom. Fatse went 3-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.

Carlos Mendez racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

Daniel DeSimone recorded his first win of the year for the Florence Freedom. He allowed two runs over five innings. DeSimone struck out four, walked two and gave up six hits.

Daniel Calhoun (2-1) took the loss for the Southern Illinois Miners. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out five, and allowed five runs.
