Brian Derner kept the Newport Gulls (27-10) off the board during his six innings of work and the New Bedford Bay Sox (25-15) beat the Newport Gulls, 2-0.

Derner allowed two hits, one walk and struck out eight.

Evan King was hot from the plate for the New Bedford Bay Sox. King went 2-2 and scored one run. He singled in the third and fifth innings.

A bright spot for the Newport Gulls in the defeat was Adam Ravenelle, who allowed only two runs while striking out 11.

Ravenelle (1-2) took the loss for the Newport Gulls.
