The Vermont Mountaineers (17-19) were never able to get over the hump and get over their troubles against the Danbury Westerners (22-15) on Friday, as the Vermont Mountaineers fell 6-4 at Montpelier Recreation Field after falling behind by four runs in the fourth inning.
The Vermont Mountaineers scored on a solo home run by Austin Green, a groundout by Cole Peragine, and in the fifth inning, a solo home run by Rob Kelly in the sixth inning, and an RBI single by Peragine and an RBI single by Peragine in the seventh inning. Despite their efforts, the Vermont Mountaineers couldn't get over the hump.
Tyler Gurman racked up four RBIs on three hits for the Danbury Westerners. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the second and eighth innings.
The Vermont Mountaineers couldn't get anything going so long as Brandon Adkins was on the hill. Adkins held the Vermont Mountaineers hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.
