Thursday was a great day for Pete Kelich, as Kelich struck out nine batters to carry the Newport Gulls (28-10) to an 8-3 victory over the Sanford Mainers (14-23) at Goodall Park in 11 innings.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the eleventh, with six lead changes.

Blake Butera did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Newport Gulls, reaching base four times. He singled in the third and ninth innings.

Caleb Kellogg improved to 2-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Newport Gulls. He struck out four, walked two and surrendered one hit.

Al Zeiher (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
