The Newport Gulls drub the Vermont Mountaineers, 17-7

The Vermont Mountaineers (17-17) didn't put up much of a fight on Tuesday, as the Newport Gulls (25-9) cruised to a blowout 17-7 win at Montpelier Recreation Field.

The Newport Gulls scored five runs in the first on an RBI double by Kasey Coffman, an RBI single by Brett Winger, and a three-run home run by Joel McKeithan.

Charlie White reached base five times in the game for the Newport Gulls. He doubled in the first and second innings.

David Schmidt brought the heat against the Vermont Mountaineers during his outing. The Vermont Mountaineers managed just three hits off of Schmidt, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four during his four innings of work.

Richie Ochoa ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed nine runs in two innings, walked two and struck out two.

The Newport Gulls easily handled the Vermont Mountaineers pitching as six hitters combined for 13 hits, 12 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
