It took 12 innings, but the Danbury Westerners (17-15) managed to put away the Newport Gulls (24-8) 7-6 on Thursday at Rogers Park.

With the score tied at six in the twelfth inning, Andrew Garner came to the plate and homered.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead changes in the game.

Daniel Spingola rocked the Newport Gulls with two home runs. Spingola went 2-4 in the game with two RBIs and two runs scored. Spingola homered in the second and fifth innings.

David Gibson got the win, running his season record to 2-2. Gibson struck out two, walked none and gave up two hits.

Ryan Pennell (1-1) took the loss for the Newport Gulls. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed one run.
