An awesome effort by Jared Walsh spurred the Keene Swamp Bats (23-6) to a 20-8 win over the Newport Gulls (22-7) on Monday at Cardines Field.
Walsh rocked the Newport Gulls with two home runs. Walsh went 3-6 in the game with five RBIs and two runs scored. Walsh homered in the first and second innings.
Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 28 total runs and 35 hits during the game. Managers of the two teams seemingly emptied their bullpens in search of the win, as there were seven pitchers used in the game.
The Keene Swamp Bats didn't let up, as they kept racking up runs until the end. The Keene Swamp Bats scored three runs in the final three innings to cap the blowout win. The Keene Swamp Bats scored five runs in the first on a two-run home run by Walsh, an RBI single by Frankie Schwindel, and a two-run home run by Fran Whitten.
Kevin McAvoy got his fourth win for the Keene Swamp Bats despite allowing six runs over five innings. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered eight hits.
Jon Prosinski ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked none and struck out none.
The Keene Swamp Bats hammered the Newport Gulls pitching as seven hitters had a field day, combining for 21 hits, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
