An ace performance by Brian Derner carried the New Bedford Bay Sox (12-6) to an 8-1 win over the Vermont Mountaineers (8-9) on Friday at Montpelier Recreation Field.
Derner shut down the Vermont Mountaineers while he was on the mound. The Vermont Mountaineers managed just one hit off of Derner, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out five during his seven innings of work.
The New Bedford Bay Sox blew out the Vermont Mountaineers thanks to 14 hits, including zero extra base hits. The New Bedford Bay Sox scored three runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Evan King and a two-run double by Zach Stone.
Alex Black boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace the New Bedford Bay Sox. He homered in the fifth inning and singled in the third and eighth innings.
