Offenses dominate as the Holyoke Blue Sox outscore the Newport Gulls 9-8

Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Thursday as the Holyoke Blue Sox (8-8) outscored the Newport Gulls (9-4) 9-8.

The teams totaled 17 hits in the game.

The Holyoke Blue Sox got their bats going early, scoring six runs in the first inning to pull ahead of the Newport Gulls.

The Holyoke Blue Sox staved off the Newport Gulls as the Newport Gulls were unable to match the Holyoke Blue Sox down the stretch.

The Newport Gulls scored on an RBI double by Brett Winger, an RBI single by Conor Keniry, and a wild pitch in the sixth inning, an RBI single by John Norwood and a two-run single by Norwood in the eighth inning, and an error and an RBI single by Austin Slater in the ninth inning. Despite their efforts, the Newport Gulls couldn't finish the comeback.

Aaron Weisberg got the win, running his season record to 1-1. He allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out seven, walked three and surrendered four hits.

Tanner Chleborad couldn't get it done on the bump for the Newport Gulls, taking a loss. He allowed seven runs in two innings, walked one and struck out none.

The Holyoke Blue Sox were sparked by Danny Diekroeger and Paul McConkey, who teamed up for five hits and five RBIs.
