The Danbury Westerners (2-2) trailed by five in the fourth, but Tom Zengel was able to capture the lead back with a double in the eighth, spurring the Danbury Westerners to a 9-7 win over the North Adams SteepleCats (4-1) at Joe Wolfe Field on Wednesday.
With the score tied at seven in the eighth inning, Zengel came to the plate and doubled, plating Jake Gronsky and Zach Shank.
Zengel had three extra-base hits for the Danbury Westerners. He homered in the fourth inning and doubled in the first and eighth innings.
David Gibson brought the heat against the North Adams SteepleCats during his outing. Gibson held the North Adams SteepleCats hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five.
Jeff Roy led the North Adams SteepleCats' offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the fourth inning.
Ben Brewster got the win, running his season record to 1-0. Brewster struck out one, walked one and gave up no hits.
Dillon McNamara (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed two runs.
The Danbury Westerners were sparked by Gronsky and Zengel, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.
